TIMOTHY TERUO WATTERS

(b. 1981 - )

Original Oil Paintings: Taking obvious comparisons from stained glass work, Timothy’s fragmented art employs similar fundamental elements, but manipulated through oil on canvas rather than glass held by lead.   Bold and solid colors create a striking impression and coupled with strong outlining creates a vibrant presence.  While the line separates, it also accentuates and emphasizes what it surrounds; moreover, the line unifies the composition by connecting every individual piece together as one whole.  Color play and Japanese aesthetic principles drive the powerful vehicle of less is more. The straightforward presentation effectively captures the emotion of the subject by being direct and vivid.

Original Graphics: Identity = icon. Logos represent more than just a person or company, they represent an idea. With the same approach to fine art, Timothy's brand identities are reduced to the lowest common denominator--the most effective and cleanest representation with the least use of line and shape.

Timothy describes his work as being simple, but never basic.

Born and raised in the North Bay's Santa Rosa, CA, Timothy has been actively painting since 1995. His grandfather, Teruo Iyama (a noted Bay Area artist) produced hundreds of paintings over 30 years and inspired Timothy's art pursuit. Teruo Iyama also excelled at carpentry, stained glass and mosaic work.

Other media include: watercolor, pen and ink, digital, pencil drawing, screen printing and woodwork.
